Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you need a single replacement pane or a full house of energy-efficient upgrades, the questions below cover the ones we hear most often in Hertfordshire, Essex and South Cambridgeshire.
If you can’t find the answer you need, just give us a ring — our friendly team is happy to help.
1. Can you repair a double-glazed unit that’s misted up or has a cracked pane?
No. Modern double- and triple-glazed units are sealed and filled with inert gas for thermal performance.
Once the seal is broken — for example, if condensation forms between the panes or a stone cracks one side — the unit can’t be repaired. The only reliable fix is a full replacement sealed unit, which we can measure, manufacture and install for you.
2. Do you supply and fit external doors as well as windows?
Yes. We offer a full range of uPVC, aluminium, composite, patio, French and bifold doors, all FENSA-compliant and colour-matched to our window systems.
3. I need my glass in a specific colour — can you match it?
Yes. We can finish glass, frames and splashbacks in virtually any shade:
- Standard RAL colours
- Farrow & Ball and Dulux trade palettes
- Pantone references for brand-critical projects
Just provide the code or a sample swatch and we’ll match it.
4. Can you cut glass to unusual shapes or templates?
Yes. From triangles for loft conversions to curved breakfast-bar tops, we can cut in our Sawbridgeworth workshop or order factory-shaped units when tolerances are tight.
5. Do you create bespoke stained-glass or leaded designs inside double-glazed units?
We do. Email or bring in a clear photo (or the original panel) and our specialists will replicate the design.
6. Do you cover my town?
We serve most of Hertfordshire, Essex and South Cambridgeshire — including Bishop’s Stortford, St Albans, Chelmsford, Harlow, Cambridge and surrounding villages. If you’re unsure, just contact us and and we’ll confirm.
7. Are you FENSA-approved?
Yes. Andrews Glass is a registered FENSA installer, so all qualifying window and door replacements come with a FENSA certificate for Building-Regulations compliance and future house sales.
